Tiree Music Festival July 20th & 21st

According to their website today, Friday 28th of June, there are only 100 tickets remaining for this Festival! So, if you’re reading this and decide to go I just hope there are still some spaces left!

The festival’s website will do it more justice than me so I’m simply going to copy some of their blurb about it. It’s on the 20th and 21st of July so if it’s too late for this year, start making plans for next year!

The Festival Website ‘About’ section (written by Lesley Dougall) :-

“As festival backdrops go, there can be few more spectacular than the tiny Hebridean island of Tiree, nicknamed the ‘Hawaii of the North’ for its idyllic conditions. Where else can you find yourself camping next to the white sands of Crossapol Bay or taking on the world famous surf at Balevullin beach? Add to this the warm welcome and good craic wherever you go, and the Tiree Music Festival is an experience unlike any other.

Come by ferry and enjoy a leisurely sail through the Sound of Mull, or come by plane and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Treshnish Isles – either way the natural beauty you’ll encounter en route is but a mere hint of what lies in store for you when you step foot on Tiree itself. Think lush greenery laced with wild flowers, long sweeping beaches and stunning seascapes as far as the eye can see.

Little wonder then that the original idea for the Tiree Music Festival came from a desire to share this magical setting with visitors from far and wide. Local boy Daniel Gillespie, musician with the band Skerryvore, found himself travelling to festivals around the world, sparking the thought that it would be great to have a similar event on Tiree to showcase both the island and the music he had grown up with.

The more festivals he played, the more the idea grew, until one day Daniel and fellow Tiree local Stewart MacLennan decided to make it happen. Their vision was a two-day island adventure with live music at its heart – not one specific genre of music but everything from traditional to contemporary, established chart acts to breakthrough bands.

The result, thanks to the large army of volunteers and loyal supporters to give the their backing along the way, was the annual Tiree Music Festival that has produced three successive sell-outs with a capacity crowd of 1250 in 2012.

So whether you’re planning to join us from the mainland by ferry or flight, or are local to Tiree itself, be sure to join in the 2013 adventure on the 20th & 21st July.”

Just to gild the lily here is a video highlighting just how good it was last year :-
